The Portable Power Station Dilemma
When I finished building my sleeping platform and insulation in the Honda Odyssey, the next big question was power. I could build a custom 12V system with a LiFePO4 battery, DC-DC charger, and solar controller — or I could buy an all-in-one portable power station. After weeks of research, I landed on the EcoFlow Delta Mini. Here is why it earned a permanent spot in my minivan camper, along with what I wish I had known before buying.
What Is the EcoFlow Delta Mini?
The EcoFlow Delta Mini is an 882Wh portable power station with a 1400W continuous pure sine wave inverter (2800W surge). It weighs about 23 pounds — about the same as a 100Ah lead-acid battery alone, but with an inverter, charger, MPPT solar controller, and smart BMS all built in. The key feature that sets it apart from competitors like Jackery and Bluetti is X-Boost technology, which allows it to power devices up to 2100W by intelligently managing the voltage.
Why It Works Perfectly for Minivan Camping
Fast Charging — The Delta Mini charges from a wall outlet in under 90 minutes (0-80% in about 50 minutes). That means if I stop at a coffee shop or library for an hour, I can top off my battery completely. With the EcoFlow 160W solar panel, I get a full charge in about 4-6 hours of good sun.
Size and Portability — At 14.5 x 8.3 x 9.3 inches, the Delta Mini slides under my sleeping platform. I can easily carry it outside to cook or work at a picnic table.

In real-world testing, the Delta Mini handles everything I need for a weekend or week-long trip: Dometic CFX 55im fridge (about 35W average, runs for 20+ hours), MacBook Air charging (60W), phone and camera battery charging, LED strip lights (12W total), MaxxAir fan on low (10W), and a CPAP machine with heated humidifier (about 60W with climate control off). Total daily usage: about 400-500Wh, giving me roughly two days of autonomy with no recharging.
The Downsides I Discovered
No system is perfect. The Delta Mini’s 882Wh capacity is adequate for weekend trips, but for extended off-grid living, I wish I had gone with the Delta 2 (1024Wh or 2048Wh with extra battery). The included 12V output is limited to 10A — not enough to charge directly from a high-output DC-DC charger in the vehicle. I use a 12V-to-USB-C PD car charger (100W) to charge while driving, which adds about 40% charge per hour of highway driving. The solar input is limited to 11-50V and 8A max, so oversized solar arrays (200W+) require careful panel selection.
How I Integrate It Into My Odyssey Build
I installed a 12V cigarette socket wired directly to my starter battery with 10 AWG wire and a 20A fuse. While driving, I plug the Delta Mini into this socket using a 12V-to-USB-C PD cable — the Delta Mini charges via USB-C at up to 100W. At camp, I deploy a 160W foldable solar panel and plug it into the solar input. The system is fully removable: when I need the van for daily driving, the Delta Mini comes out in 30 seconds and goes into the house.
Verdict
The EcoFlow Delta Mini is the best balance of capacity, charging speed, and portability for a minivan camper. It is not the cheapest option (around $600-700) and not the highest capacity, but it is the most convenient. For weekend warriors and road-trippers who want reliable power without building a custom electrical system, it is an excellent choice.
